Broken Chains

More Pictures

So all I ever blog about these days is my daughter, but at this point in my life, she's about all I think about. Mothering is a 24/7 job, so how do other moms have time for other things? I guess I'll figure it out eventually.

Let me just say, however, I can NOT imagine going back to work at 6 weeks like so many other moms have to or choose to do. She was so little then (she still is). I know it would break my heart to leave her with someone else all day, every day. Although there are days...

Below is a pic of Cate wearing a lovely hat knit especially for her by Nueva Texan. Unfortunately, the tassle fell off and mom hasn't gotten around to reattaching it, but this is still my favorite of Cate's hats!

And of course, Cate is a UofM fan...how could she be anything else? Thanks to Fiona's Mom for the shirt!

6 Weeks: Sleeping and Smiling

Cate is now a little over six weeks old...and she's just about sleeping through the night! Hee hee...my little sleep-loving heart is rejoicing, believe me. Four nights ago she slept from 10:30pm to 6:30am. Unbelievable. Do you think I slept that well? Um, no. I kept waking up wondering if and when she was going to wake up and why she wasn't awake. However, she's kept it up, going down between 9:30 and 11pm, and waking just once around 5:30am to eat. Then she's up again by 7:30, so that must be her wakeup time. This doesn't really compare to my previously enjoyed 9 hours of sleep a night, but it's progresss. Progress is good.

Cate also wakes up most mornings with a smile for her mom, and sometimes for her dad, if he's not being too loud and scary. Those little smiles just melt my heart in a way that I did not think possible. It's amazing the depths of silliness I'll go to to get one of those open-mouthed smiles. They are what keep me going when she's continuously hungry from 6pm to 9pm and loudly voicing her disgust at mom's unwillingness to have a hungry little mouth attached to her for 3 hours straight. Aside from the nightly fussiness, Cate is a rather calm, easily soothed baby. We love her chubby sweet cheeks to pieces.
